How To Turn A Bedroom Into Retreat

Your master bedroom should be your refuge. It should be the one place where you can relax and unwind at the end of your day. A true retreat will combine comfort, beauty, and practicality, custom-made to fit your personal taste. Not sure where to begin decorating the bedroom of your dreams? Use this simple guide to assist you in your quest.

1) Add A Fresh Coat Of Paint

Since this is a room in which relaxation is paramount, select a color that will help to create a relaxing atmosphere, whatever that means to you. You may feel most relaxed around soft colors, like a neutral or blue, or maybe you love something deep and rich, like charcoal or dark green.

2) Sitting Pretty

A nice addition to the master bedroom is a sitting area. All you need is a comfy chair, small side table, and lamp to create a cozy spot where you can relax, read a book or enjoy your morning coffee. If space allows, add a bench or a couple of ottomans at the foot of the bed.

3) Make A Dreamy Bed

You spend a third of your life sleeping, so it’s important to choose a mattress, pillows and bedding that are the most comfortable for you. Invest in 100-percent-natural-fiber sheets such as cotton or linen (they're soft, breathable, and long-lasting) and new pillows every year or two. A thick new mattress topper is another easy way to give an older bed new cushiness. Add decorative pillows and layers of linens to accentuate the relaxing look.
