- The Gárgulas da Torre do Tombo set, presented by Vista Alegre, is inspired by the sculpture work designed in 1990 by Jose Aurelio, upon an invitation by Arsenio Cordeiro, architect of the Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo [National Archive of Torre do Tombo], classified as a Public Interest Monument since 2012.
- Like their medieval counterparts, the gargoyles have an utilitarian (rainwater runoff), as well as didactic and symbolic roles: to explain what the Arquivo Nacional is - a Temple of Memory, the base of our individual and collective memory.
- Monumental sculptures carved in monolithic cubes of limestone, each weighing 30 tons, the 8 gargoyles are distributed by the facades of the building into two groups of four, defining, in their complementing elements, the characteristics of the documents stored in the Torre do Tombo.
- “Guardas da Escrita” [Guardian of the Writing] are placed on the corners of the facades, facing outside.
- They symbolize the writing media and the responsibility of those guarding them, as well as the ancient and modern media, represented by the Gargoyles: Guarda das Pedras [Guardian of the Stones], Guarda dos Papiros [Guardian of the Scrolls], Guarda do Alfabeto [Guardian of the Alphabet] and Guarda das Ondas Hertzianas [Guardian of the Radio Waves].
- “The Perpetrators of History” are placed on the facades’ centre, facing each other.
- They indicate the opposites and the dichotomies present in the historical development, and they are represented by the Gargoyles: The Good and the Evil, The Old, the Young and Death, War and Peace and Tragedy and Comedy.
- The first two pieces of this Vista Alegre collection are The Good and The Evil, and The Old, The Young and Death.
- Collection awarded with an honorable mention by the German Design Award 2017.

Shipping & Returns
Our Standard Shipping service includes delivery to the nearest dry area of your home, such as a porch or garage. The item will remain in its box, and unpacking or removal of packaging materials is not included. A signature is required at the time of delivery, unless shipped via UPS or another small parcel carrier, which do not schedule delivery appointments. Please note, delivery does not include carrying items up stairs.
Standard Shipping is $99 for most items. Orders of $1,500 or more qualify for free Standard Shipping within the U.S., excluding Hawaii, Alaska, and certain brands such as Copeland Furniture.
White Glove Delivery costs $279 per delivery, with additional charges for remote areas. This service includes an appointment, delivery inside your home (up to 1 flight of stairs), item placement, assembly if needed, and removal of large packaging materials. Please note that White Glove Delivery does not cover any modifications to your home, such as installing artwork or lighting. Not all items require assembly.
If you're expecting multiple deliveries, please contact our customer service team prior to purchase to help coordinate a delivery schedule.
Return Policy
Grayson Living has a strict return policy, so please make your selection carefully. To initiate a return, submit a request by following this link. Eligible returns must be made within 7 days of the delivery date and will incur a 35% restocking fee, along with outbound and return shipping charges.
How Do I Change My Order?
Changes or cancellations must be made within 24 hours of ordering. After that, our standard return policy applies, including a 35% restocking fee and shipping charges for eligible returns.
For backordered items—those that are currently out of stock—cancellations must be requested no later than 30 days before the current estimated ship date. This excludes custom or made-to-order items, which cannot be cancelled once the order is placed.
